Why doesn’t she get told to cover herself when she’s in public? Because we are just so kind and respectful that we understand that a woman’s body is her own and exposing it shouldn’t be shamed? Nope. It’s because this is deemed “sexy” this is a turn on this is fun this is pleasurable this makes us happy. But she better not dare be responsible and try to help a human being not die from starvation because that’s just not sexy we’re not supposed to get turned on by a woman breast feeding a baby because a baby is responsibility and baby isn’t fun and baby reminds us that she is human and not an object for entertainment.
This is what I don’t get. Feminism at its core is the very simple belief that all women should be treated equal to all men. That we should have the same rights and be viewed in the same light of respect. Sure there’s a bunch of extra stuff added by the extremists that give feminism a bad rap (no we don’t want to kill or enslave all men.) And if we’ve been learning ANYTHING AT ALL so far, it’s that the last thing anyone should do is look to the extremists in any cause / religion / etc as a definition of what something is. And then there’s even the extra stuff believed by people like me who think that not only should women be treated as equals to men but that as a 🌎🌍🌏 we should be rising above together, and overall treating everyone not better but best (equally). But at the end of the day feminism is just wanting everyone to be treated as equals. It’s another chapter in the book of those of us who think that ALL human beings should be treated equally, no matter your religion, no matter how much money you have, no matter how pretty or ugly or fat or skinny you’re perceived to be, and in particular to feminism no matter what sex you were born as or choose to be. That’s all. So the next time you say you’re not a feminist, or that you don’t have to be because you’re not a woman or because you don’t feel like you’re not treated as less than because of your sex think of it this way “no one is human until everyone is treated as such” so why not be a feminist???
You may not know that @tejadacarolina’s and my joke about sideboobs comes from an episode we thought was funny on family guy (an old one from back when Seth MacFarlane was actually writing funny episodes and not just straight up misogynistic & racist bullshit), I digress, but the truth is that we don’t need an excuse from a show to expose a part of our body if we feel comfortable doing so. As I spoke about this picture earlier to a friend I explained that just because a body part is exposed it doesn’t mean its being done to be sexual or indecent or has any intention of that sort. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with consensual and respectful acts of such. The human body should be appreciated, celebrated, an respected; not criticized, humiliated and made to hide in an inexplicable shame. I’m not going to hide myself because there are people who don’t know how to respect humans still, I’m not hurting me and I’m not hurting others by doing so. So this post goes out to the creep that decided to follow Carolina and I as we went home last night. And who continued to pursue me once we went our separate ways until I shouted at him to stop following me. #endrapeculture #equalityforALL #worldpeace #endbodyshaming #endmisogyny
